Three Wright School of Business students recently placed third in an intense, 24-hour innovation competition aimed at solving a complex, real-world logistics problem. Zac Coquerille, Trevor Brown and Martin Nunez, all logistics and supply chain management majors, were among 141 who initially applied for the first-ever FreightTech Innovation Challenge in Chattanooga and were among 51 students selected to compete.
In addition to the accolade of being on the third-place team among so many leading students, the Dalton State team received a $1,000 check.
The WSOB students were placed on a team with students from Georgia Southern.
“This competition was an excellent opportunity for students to solve real-world supply chain and logistics problems using real-world data,” said Victor Marshall, assistant professor of management of Dalton State.
Students competed from across the country from top supply chain and business programs, including Michigan State University, Purdue University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Iowa State University, University of Georgia, Georgia Southern University, Emory University, and University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. Regional schools were also represented, including University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University, Dalton State College, Covenant College, and Lee University.
The first-place team, consisting of four students from the Georgia Institute of Technology and one from the University of Puerto Rico, was awarded a cash price of $5,000. The second-place team from Georgia Tech and Tennessee State University won a $3,000 cash prize.
